What is a regulated nervous system?
It's when you feel balanced. It's when the sympathetic (fight or flight) and parasympathetic (rest and restore) branches of our nervous system are in balance.
Rather than oscillating between the extremes of being completely 'on' or being completely wiped out, a balanced or regulated nervous system creates calm, a feeling of being more at ease in body and mind.
If you feel wired, hyper vigilant, and anxious, this can lead to burn out, overwhelm and fatigue. It can be caused by operating dominantly from the sympathetic branch of our nervous system. We do need to be in this sympathetic gear for driving for example but if we always stay in this gear, we can feel out of balance.
Restorative yoga, somatic movement, breath work, chanting and meditation can all help to downshift us into the parasympathetic branch of our nervous system. These tools can help us rest, restore, and regulate our nervous system so we feel more balanced.
If you would like to experience the effects of my new restorative somatic class, please book here.
“Kate’s restorative yoga class brings a much-needed escape from my sometimes hectic daily life. It’s a great addition to the more energetic yoga practice or other exercise. I find that the gentle stretching and relaxation is good for both physical recovery and reenergising the mind.”
